COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE IS MORE THAN A PROCESS

Completing collaborative training gives us an important framework. Developing a truly collaborative practice requires another shift — in how we think about our professional role, how we communicate with clients, how we ask questions and how we work with professionals from other disciplines.

The Collaborative Practice Skills Lab is designed to help bridge the gap between collaborative training and day-to-day collaborative practice.

Drawing on Beryl McNeill’s experience in collaborative practice, conflict resolution and neuroscience-informed communication, the Skills Lab explores how the way we communicate and the questions we ask can influence reflection, defensiveness and the progress of difficult conversations. “The Collaborative Practice Skills Lab is designed to help bridge the gap between collaborative training and day-to-day collaborative practice.”

EXPERIENCE GROUNDED IN PRACTICE

For more than 35 years, Beryl McNeill has practised law, including 24 years as a collaborative family lawyer helping families navigate separation and divorce.

Her approach to the Skills Lab draws on that extensive practical experience, together with years of teaching collaborative practice, communication and interest-based negotiation skills to lawyers and other professionals.

The Skills Lab brings that experience into a practical learning environment designed to help collaborative professionals strengthen the skills they use every day with clients and collaborative teams.
